Held every Saturday from 8.30 am. At the other end of the scale from Mahon Point – This small-yet-mighty food & farmer’s market in the historic heart of Cork City is a delight to find when strolling between our two river channels.
A mix of organic producers, street-food stalls and innovative food and drink artisans, it’s held in what was once the great open air market for the people of Cork, on the old Coal Quay, under the iconic Shandon Bells.
Here you will find organic veg, fish from West Cork, eggs, bread, buns, jams, cakes, juices, crepes and flowers. Vegetarians and those looking for Gluten Free food are especially well catered for. And it’s very local. Even the Miso Soup, seaweed salads and Falafel rolls are made with mostly or exclusively local ingredients.
Locals love it – and if you are just in the city for a day or two and want an open-air experience that gives you a tasty slice of Cork food culture, head for the Coal Quay on Saturday morning. It’s also just a five minute stroll from its much more famous big brother, Cork’s weekday English Market. So you should do both!
